AI-generated process data is the "solid foundation" of the new Drachenburg in Ulm

The new construction of the Gertrud Brandt House at Beyerstrasse 14 in Ulm replaces the so-called "Drachenburg" from the 1950s. Due to the significance of this historic site, it was essential for the client UWS to prioritize the interests of the Ulm community when planning the new building and to guarantee a correspondingly precise implementation. Matthäus Schmid Bauunternehmen has been dedicated to this goal since the start of the project in January 2023.

The key data of the construction project

The building comprises a total of 31 residential units with a living space of approx. 2,375m2. There is also an underground garage with 27 parking spaces for residents and a commercial space of approx. 264 m2. Completion is scheduled for April 2025.

Matthäus Schmid has been relying on oculai for the scheduled and efficient execution of the shell construction work since 2022 and has recorded continuous success in the process optimization of joint projects. The approach: oculai enables a new level of efficiency in the implementation of projects through the automated flow of information from production to construction management & controlling.

Matthäus Schmid Bauunternehmen benefits in particular from two key advantages of the technology:
the precise tracking of all processes, as well as the collection of informative effort values and the current progress of the project in the schedule.

Progress tracking and scheduling in the oculai schedule

During the course of the project, the schedule not only provides a permanent overview of the current status of the construction site, but also allows site management to make a well-founded estimate of the expected completion of individual construction phases and the entire building.

The added value for Matthäus Schmid

  • Location-independent monitoring instead of time-consuming on-site rounds
  • Complete documentation (valuable e.g. for general traceability, if proof is required in the event of a dispute or as a basis for debates on additional costs)
  • And above all: Insights into work processes to optimize the construction process, including cost values
"The automatic updating of the schedule and process data is extremely useful for forward-looking planning. In addition, oculai's seamless documentation via image, process and weather data provides a solid foundation for clearly identifying disruptions in the construction process and taking them into account or even ruling them out in future projects."

Andreas Zoller, Head of Controlling at Matthäus Schmid

Improved planning thanks to a comprehensive data basis

The automatic recording of working hours for shell construction processes (e.g. formwork, reinforcement, concreting, precast elements or masonry) offers a decisive advantage for Matthäus Schmid construction companies: An insight into effort values for all projects (e.g.working hours per cubic meter of concrete for concreting). By collecting and recording these values accurately, Matthäus Schmid can make informed decisions and plan similar construction projects more precisely. The efficiency of the systems used can also be checked in order to further optimize construction processes.

This enables efficient resource planning and helps to ensure that projects are completed successfully, on time and within budget.

AI detection of the concreting

In addition to the project in Beyerstrasse, Matthäus Schmid Bauunternehmen is currently implementing three other projects together with oculai. This lays the foundation for continued successful cooperation and the implementation of future construction projects.
